The Microsoft Power Women Awards are part of Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to inspire a new generation and invest in female tech talent.

Women make up almost half (49%) of total employment across non-STEM occupations, but just 29% of all tech-related roles.1 For high-level leadership positions such as VP and C-suite, representation drops to 17.8% and 12.4%, respectively. We believe that if we are not unleashing the full potential of female tech talent, then our businesses are missing out. We want to change this statistics, which is why we’re shining a spotlight on talented tech professionals from across Europe.

Let’s inspire change

What if every woman considering a tech career could see the potential she could unlock? Microsoft launched its Power Women Awards as a way to promote astounding female tech talent: increasing visibility, building community, and investing in female leadership.

In 2023, 12 female leaders in technology from 11 Western Europe countries won the Microsoft Power Women Award. These women have not only excelled in their professional careers, but have also played a pivotal role in motivating women and those early in career to pursue rewarding opportunities in the field of technology.

“The award is not just a personal triumph, it is celebration of grit, resilience, and boundless potential of women in technology. Microsoft’s commitment to promote diversity and inclusivity in the tech sphere sets a new standard that I hope set the example for peers companies and establishes a new tradition for promoting female talent in tech” – said the award winner Eduvigis Ortiz, Strategic Alliances Leader at SAS, Founder & President Women4Cyber from Spain.

The outcome surpassed all expectations with a grand total of 159 nominations received from all participating countries. The 2024 edition of the Microsoft Power Women Award has broadened its reach to encompass the entire EMEA region including 15 countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and 4 areas: Africa, Central Europe, Middle East and Southeast Europe.

All 19 Winners will be invited to join the Microsoft Women’s Leadership Program 2nd Edition, customized and developed by Professor Jennifer Petriglieri, at the INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau in France.
